I Want To Live Here film competition this thursday!

Those groovy kids at Earthsharing Australia have been running a short film competition about the housing affordability crisis.Budding film makers have spent the last few months making short films, all aiming for a massive $3000 prize. A prize sure to help pay the rent!

Polka Dot Rabbit is super excited to be running a market at the finals night.Us crafters know all about the cost of rent, it's the main reason we have to put so much markup on our products when they go into shops! When you support local makers at local markets you not only get something lovely and unique to call your own, but you are also supporting your local independent industries. Buying local handmade stuff is one of the easiest ways to help your community survive a global economic crisis.

Wanna know more? Come along.

Make your own shelves

God bless Pura Crates! God knows what any rental property would be without them...

This is really easy and obvious, but I have seen people take this further and make really glamorous shelves out of old crates, but we'll stay simple here....

Get your Crates, I'm never sure where people actually get these from, they seem to just be in every rental property... Clean them...

Then simply stack them, with the large hole to left of the right so that no items fall through. If your items are too small and fall through the gaps in the crates then you can use wood or card to prevent this happening.

Voila! Who needs Ikea!

I Want to Live Here Film Competition

What are your chances in finding a bright, sunny rentable house near a train station and some hip shops? Some say it’s cheaper to rent than own. Is that healthy?

We’re inviting all concerned people worldwide to make short films that address the growing affordability and housing crisis (up to 3 minutes in length). How can there be a housing crisis when apartments and blocks of land can be seen empty throughout the city? There must be more to the story than meets the eye.

The ‘I Want to Live Here’ myth buster film competition is designed to encourage storytellers to explore the myths surrounding housing and land issues in their area.

Homelessness, exorbitant rents and lack of availability are huge problems. We want to know your stories, ideas and solutions. We encourage films of all genres and styles. Be as creative and interesting as possible.

Register now

The winner will receive a $3000 cash prize and a big kiss from all renters.
Entries close at 5pm on Thursday October 2nd.
Rough or polished, the story is the key - you’ve go to be in it to win it.

I Want to Live Here Film Competition

‘I Want to Live Here’ film comp is a step forward in exploring the intricacies of our housing crisis. We want the competition to reflect economics as essential, interesting and accessible to all.

The dream of owning a house is becoming a distant reality for more and more people. Affordable rent has become a world wide issue. Land is a basic human right for all.

The good news is we can do something about it! The film competition asks you to explore the issues near you and present them in a fun and interesting format.
